Every once in a while, something like this pops up.
I get it. It’s a lot of documentation to read and on top of that, as a netizen you have to figure out how crawlers and different technologies on the web also work, regardless of how we’ve built Hide My WP Ghost by Squirrly.
It’s really lazy to not read the clear and when-you-need-them instructions we give in the UI.
- First thing’s FIRST! Do you really want to hide the fact that you’re using WordPress? Like, entirely, without a single link visible that could tie your site to WP.
Most of you will not need this.
Hide My WP Ghost is the category leader and also the first software in the Hack Prevention space of WordPress Plugins.
Hackers can’t attack what they can’t find. So the safe mode and most of the Ghost mode are focused on helping you hide all the known paths that hackers use inside the little hacking bots they build to launch mass-scale attacks to all those hundreds of thousands of WP sites you read about in vulnerability reports.
Read this.
https://hidemywpghost.com/how-to-hide-from-wordpress-theme-detectors/
It will help you make up your mind in this regard.
No? – this doesn’t do the trick for you?
Okay, maybe you have a client that you want to impress by telling them you’ve built the entire site in Notepad. – I’m kidding / not kidding (some people actually do this)
2. Well, if you’re 100% certain you need to fully hide everything, that’s a different horse.
Hide My WP will obviously help you with that as well, but you’ll need to work a lot harder to get that part done.
2.1. And you need to figure out how web services work. – BuiltWith and the others used cached databases and only ever refresh their “findings” every once in a while. 3 Months or 6 Months. – Sometimes you just need to wait, or talk to them to change it, because they’re spreading fake info about your brand.
2.2. Then, you may have heard weird things about web security before, but here’s the thing about changing everything and all the files on your hosting account:
you can see more details in my comment below, where I also linked to some docs.
Also, as per – https://www.squirrly.co/marketingtools/watch-4-popular-youtubers-test-hide-my-wp-ghost-by-squirrly/ – you can hear others talking about loading speeds and how good they are.
Changes are made at the rewrites levels and the files themselves don’t get changed.
2.3. Then, other ideas like these, that have nothing to do with how Hide My WP Ghost works:
No, it’s not easy and your source code will look different when someone looks it up.
2.4. Then, you may say: Hey, why does it come up as a Drupal site?
I’m guessing you’ve set Drupal as the fake proxy for all detections inside Hide My WP Ghost. – yes. You can also learn all about it in the UI itself or in the help center.
One of them has a list with real-time detectors, which will help you debug in real time. And you will see that BuiltWith has a way for you to ask them to remove you from their WordPress lists.
2.5. Do You Have a SAMPLE ? DEMO Site?
2.5.1. MORE:
You can check with: https://www.wpthemedetector.com/
2.5.2. LOL: detected as drupal – someone mentions that.
Even though it’s fully made in WordPress
IT’S BY DESIGN!
2.5.3. Someone still managed to find ONE resource that could link the demo site to the Astra Theme (like your clients would really know all about Astra theme.. smh)
https://hidemywpghost.com/hide-wordpress-website-from…/
If you think a hacker will get away with that level of hiding, think again:
Many of our users reported that there weren’t any other attacks after implementing the security measures, and that makes sense because the bots stopped working.
3. So if you’ve read all of this, and still find yourself listed as a WP user:
– remember what I told you about the cache
– you didn’t finish making all the configs by following everything in our knowledge base (help center).
One of two things. Or both. There can be nothing else.
Hopefully, with this entire post that resulted from many conversations, you have the full information and all the references you need to make the best decisions for your security.
